Newton County – An “Epic” Mountain Biking Destination
One of the newest mountain bicycle destinations in the United States is Newton County’s Upper Buffalo Mountain Bike Trail. Surrounding the highest point in the Ozark Mountains in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, the 35-mile Upper Buffalo trail was designated by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) as an “Epic®” mountain bike trail in 2014. According to the IBMA website, www.ibma.com, “this gem of Midwest riding laces around the headwaters of the Buffalo National River on a mixture of narrow, hand-built singletrack and machine-cut flow trails.”
